Design Fair to showcase MSU engineering student senior projects
December 6, 2018 @ 12:00pm
BOZEMAN — Montana State University engineering students will showcase their senior projects on Thursday, Dec. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Strand Union Building’s Ballroom A on the MSU campus. The all-ages event is free and open to the public.
Roughly 30 student teams will demonstrate and display a variety of creations, including solar-powered car components, a snowplow radar system and self-activated ergonomic seating.
The biannual Design Fair is a chance for MSU students and members of the public to see the final products of the capstone projects that all seniors in MSU’s Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering complete as a requirement to earning their degrees. Working in teams and advised by MSU faculty — and sometimes sponsors from private industry — the students find solutions to engineering problems.
According to Robb Larson, associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, the success of the capstone projects relies on project sponsors within and beyond the MSU community. Sponsors in the past have included MSU faculty needing custom research equipment and Montana companies seeking to improve their manufacturing capabilities. Anyone interested in sponsoring a capstone project should contact him, Larson said.
