SUMMARY:Celebracion Dia de Muertos
DESCRIPTION:The Arts Council of Big Sky in partnership with Big Sky Town Center welcomes everyone to join the Celebración Día de Muertos on Sunday\, October 26\, 2025\, at the new Big Sky Center for the Arts. This is a free\, family-friendly\, community event and is part of Big Sky’s multi-day Haunted Peaks Festival. \nThe traditions of Día de Muertos create a space for families and friends to reflect upon and celebrate the lives of loved ones who have passed with warmth and lightheartedness.The altar opens and the celebration begins at noon\, with a full schedule of traditional activities running through the afternoon. At 4pm\, the parade of Catrinas will begin\, followed by a street fiesta of food dancing and traditional music with Mariachi Zavala. \nSpecial guests Mariachi Zavala\, a family of three generations of Maraichis will be traveling from Ogden\, Utah. Mariachi Zavala has been performing and sharing musical education programming for decades across Utah\, Wyoming\, Montana\, and beyond. In addition to performing for Celebración Día de Muertos\, they will be visiting the schools in Big Sky to share their music\, instruments\, and the culture of Mariachi. \nEveryone is invited to come and participate. Dressing up as a Catrina for “Day of the Dead” is highly encouraged!\nActivities include:\nAltar – open from noon – 7pm\nNoon – 2pm Ofrenda making station (bring photos of and treats for your deceased loved ones)\n1-3pm – Face painting\n2-3:30pm – Calaveras literarias (story telling/writing/poetry circle)\n4 pm – Parade of the Catrinas led by the Lesser Known Collective\n4 – 7pm – Street Fiesta with Mariachi Zavala \nAll activities have bilingual Spanish/English support. This community-wide celebration is made possible through the collaboration of the Arts Council of Big Sky\, Town Center Owners Association\, World Language Initiative\, and Lesser Known Collective\, with support from the Spanish Peaks Community Foundation\, members of several local non-profit organizations\, and countless individual community members. \nFor more information on the event\, tutorials on making or dressing as a catrina\, and components of an ofenda\, visit www.bigskyarts.org.
