MontanaPBS keeps the music alive with March airings
There’s a whiff of optimism in the air for a more robust live music calendar this summer, but it still may be a while before we’re able to enjoy the art form as we once did. MontanaPBS offers a slew of programming multiple nights a week for those needing to scratch the itch. Here’s a look at just a few.
11th & Grant with Eric Funk, its signature music series, will feature a wonderful classical music program by Elizabeth Croy and Julie Gosswiller on March 25th at 7pm. With a touch of elegance, these musicians present a program of classical art song. Croy (soprano) and Gosswiller (piano), both on the music faculty at MSU, have competed nationally in various competitions and continually wow their audiences with their warmth, musicianship, stylistic breadth and pure charm. Featured in this performance are a number of short art songs by beloved classical composers, sung in French, German, Russian and English. Gosswiller graces us with piano solos and Croy joins host & artistic director, Eric Funk, for an intimate performance of the big band classic “Moonglow.” The episode will air once more on March 27th at 10:10pm.
Catch more quarantunes with another edition of Live from Home: A Montana Music, Home Video Special on March 18th at 8pm. Viewers will be able to enjoy the original work of numerous local musicians as they perform from the safety of their homes. An encore of the episode is set for March 20th at 10:17pm.
Acts on the national stage can be seen in upcoming airings of the long-running showcase, Austin City Limits. Next up is an episode highlighting the effervescent pop of Maggie Rogers. The March 20th airing sees the singer-songwriter perform hits like “Light On” and “Alaska” from her debut, Heard It in a Past Life. The episode airs at 11:15pm.
Following March 27th is contemporary art-rocker St. Vincent. Enjoy a visually and sonically stunning hour with the groundbreaking, Grammy winning singer-songwriter-guitarist and her band as they perform cuts from her acclaimed LP, Masseducation. The episode airs at 11:05pm.
