Artwork from The Compassion Project (TCP) will be on display in Bozeman Public Library’s Atrium Gallery May 1st through June 30th. The Library display is part of an over 6,000-piece installation across Bozeman at five different locations. Other venues include Fork & Spoon Homestyle Kitchen, Red Tractor Pizza, Sola Café, and the Emerson Center for the Arts & Culture.
The Compassion Project’s mission is to bring the Bozeman community and the greater Gallatin County together through education around compassion – what it means, how to recognize it, how to practice it, and why it is important.
Upon completion of school and community lessons, each participant received a 7 x 7-inch wooden block to create their own artistic representation of compassion based on what they learned. The final output of this project is an installation of all the art pieces, totaling about 6,000 around Bozeman.
“The outpouring of support for this amazing project from teachers, parents, TCP crew and other community members is what makes this project special,” says Kayte Kaminski, Director of The Compassion Project and Assistant Dean of MSU’s College of Education. “It speaks to people on a different level given the current division we are seeing in the world. Compassion is something we all need and something we can all can strive for.
Viewers of the exhibit at all locations can learn more about the individual pieces and read the artist’s statement by downloading The Compassion Project’s mobile app. Created by MSU students in the Software Factory, the app allows users to enter the number tagged on each block to get to more information on the piece. A banner with app instructions will be displayed at each exhibit.
The Compassion Project pieces will be on display during Library hours. Located at 626 E Main St., Bozeman Public Library creates opportunities that inspire curiosity, exploration and connection. For more information about other library happenings, please visit www.bozemanlibrary.org.
