Three-day event features two free outdoor performances
Presented by the Arts Council of Big Sky, the sixth annual Big Sky Classical Music Festival is slated for August 12-14, 2016, in beautiful Big Sky, Montana. The festival features three nights of world-class music—with two of the nights offering free admission.
The first night of the festival features one of the world’s most renowned classical guitarists, Ana Vidovic, performing an intimate concert at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center. Joining Ana for part of the evening will be Angella Ahn on violin. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased at www.warrenmillerpac.org. Tickets are $35 for premium, $25 for general and $15 for budget. Ana Vidovic is an extraordinary talent with formidable gifts taking her place amongst the elite musicians of the world today. Ms. Vidovic has given over one thousand public performances since first taking the stage in 1988. Her international performance career includes recitals in New York, London, Paris, Vienna, Salzburg, Rome, Budapest, Warsaw, Tel Aviv, Oslo, Copenhagen, Toronto, Baltimore, San Francisco, Houston, Austin, Dallas, St. Louis and beyond.
Saturday features a free outdoor concert in Town Center Park with M5 Mexican Brass, coming in direct from Mexico City for the festival. Since it’s founding in 2005, M5 Mexican Brass has established itself as Mexico’s leading Brass Quintet with international recognition. Combining their skills at virtuosic chamber music in all styles, non-stop interaction with the audience, inborn showmanship, inimitable Latin American charm, and their very own sound, M5 concerts are unique musical- theatrical concert experiences. The concert will start at 6 p.m. with an opening ensemble followed by M5 at 7 p.m.
On Sunday, the Big Sky Festival Orchestra will perform a free concert outdoors in Town Center Park. The orchestra will be conducted by Peter Bay (Austin Symphony Orchestra) and features some of the best musicians from Montana, as well as Concertmaster Jessica Matheas from the Austin Symphony Orchestra and soloist Ana Vidovic on guitar. Selections include the Symphony No. 3 from Beethoven, and the Hebrides (Fingal’s Cave) Op. 26, from Mendelssohn, and Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez. The concert will start at 5 p.m. and admission is free. In case of inclement weather, the rain site will the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center and the event will start one hour later.
Other free events throughout the weekend include an open rehearsal/discussion with the M5 Mexican Brass ensemble on Saturday afternoon from 1-2:30 in the Talus Room at Big Sky Resort. There is also a Masterclass with students from the Montana State University String Camp from 10-11:30 in the Talus Room that is also free and open to the public for observation. Finally, the MSU String Camp Orchestra will be performing a free concert at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. No tickets are required.
