What was the most recent thing you made? A walnut coffee table, a robot, or maybe hand-knit socks? What would you make if you could make anything you wanted? A project from Pinterest, a sculpture, or a gift for a friend? You can make these things! Bringing an idea to life with your hands is a joyful activity all of us are capable of, and find a great satisfaction in. Learning how to make, fix, or modify the objects in your life is an excellent boost to your sense of confidence and independence. Making things is an act of self-expression and assertiveness. It gives you a chance to show the world how something could be done — by doing it.
Perhaps you haven’t touched a saw since 7th grade shop class, or maybe you spend all day doing beautiful trim carpentry in the fanciest new homes around. Either way, there is always something to be gained by new experiences of making. For anyone who lives in this area and wants to make more things, the Bozeman Makerspace is an excellent place — and group of people — to help you do so! Whatever your age or experience level may be, the Makerspace provides resources for all kinds of awesome projects. Facilities at the Makerspace will let you explore processes including woodworking, electronics, 3D printing, CNC milling, sewing, art-making, and more. If you have an idea on the back burner, there’s no better time and place to get working on it!
Every Thursday night, the Bozeman Makerspace hosts Open Builds from 6–9pm. This is a great chance to come check out the space, chat with members, and even bring a small project in to work on or get help with. Other classes and events happen throughout the month and are listed in The BoZone, www.bozemanmakers.org, and on the Bozeman Makerspace Facebook and Meetup pages. If you’re really stoked to get started on some serious making, consider joining the Makerspace as a member. For only $20 a month, members have unlimited access to the facilities, free attendance of classes, and a role in helping to shape this valuable community resource.
Find the Makerspace at 1018 E Griffin Drive in the old livestock auction building, next to the Stockyard Café and Story Mill. Bring your ideas and get ready to turn them into reality! •
